A compact garden room needn’t be a compromise. It can provide a discreet, comfortable space for a variety of uses.
How can I use a small garden room?
Even a tiny garden room can be a great way to make some private space for a neat and private home office for a single person. Or maybe you have a teen who could do with some private space for gaming or hanging out with a friend.
With the right equipment, you can install a home gym in even the smallest of spaces without the need to clutter your home.
Small garden rooms can be considered an ideal solution to gaining some extra space without breaking the bank or overtaking your garden.

It’s all about deciding what you need. That’s why a bespoke service like the one we offer at Sanctuary Garden Rooms is ideal. We can help you discover what will work for your needs.

Some general rules to help you understand planning guidelines
We will take care of any planning permission required, but generally, you can install a garden room within permitted building limits.
- A garden room must stay below 30 square metres.
- Only 50% of your garden can be covered by outbuildings (including sheds, summerhouses, etc.)
- If the garden room is within 2m of the boundary, the height must be 2.5m or lower.
If you are worried that your garden is too small, why not get in touch so we can carry out a site survey? Our expert team will be happy to advise you of your options.
Advantages of a Small Garden Room
- Privacy: Being detached from your house means it provides a space where you will not disturb others or be disturbed!
- Versatility: You are only limited by your imagination. What about a home office, a gym, a yoga room, a hot tub room, a spa, a playroom, a den, a reading room….?
- Contemporary: Even the smallest garden rooms have a modern appeal that will fit into any sized garden and will be an elegant, stylish feature.
- Bright and Airy: One of the biggest advantages of a small garden room is that the large glazed doors and windows help to create an illusion of space and keep the area light and welcoming.
